Overview
ChronoGrid’s generated offline bank contains 38,659 unique English answer-and-clue pairs. Answer and clue text comes from the Linguabase Core scores_labels and clues tables after ChronoGrid’s family-friendly filters. Open English WordNet 2025 is used only as a lexical cross-check and ordering signal. No Open English WordNet gloss, definition, or example text is shipped as a ChronoGrid clue.
Open English WordNet 2025
ChronoGrid parses the common-word 2025 WNDB release into a lowercase, 3–12 ASCII-letter lookup. Membership in that lookup is used to prioritize Linguabase candidates before word-frequency ordering. This is a modified, non-textual use of data created by the Open English WordNet Community.

Linguabase
ChronoGrid uses the Linguabase Core scores_labels table to restrict answers by content rating, child appropriateness and familiarity, game suitability, sensitivity, cultural scope, geographic English, time stability, and pop-culture dependence. It selects one clue from the Linguabase Core clues table and applies additional length, proper-name, trademark, answer-leakage, and sensitive-token checks.
Linguabase is released by the nonprofit IDEA.org under CC0 1.0 Universal: dedicated to the public domain, with no attribution required and commercial use permitted. ChronoGrid nevertheless provides this source credit.

ChronoGrid keeps its Turkish word data offline. The spelling list, Turkish-to-synset alignment, English source glosses, offline translation drafting, and ChronoGrid editing are separate stages described below.

ChronoGrid’s spelling bank is generated from the Turkish Hunspell dictionary distributed as dictionary-tr by wooorm/dictionaries. Hunspell flags are removed; entries are normalized to uppercase Turkish and deduplicated; only standalone Turkish alphabetic entries of 3–12 letters are retained.

Hacettepe Automatic Wiki WordNet
For a reviewed subset of the spelling bank, Hacettepe Automatic Wiki WordNet associates a Turkish literal with a Princeton WordNet synset. Its project page says the automatically built wordnets are provided under Creative Commons Attribution, may be used commercially with appropriate attribution, and can contain errors. The licence is CC BY, version not stated by source; this notice does not infer a version.

Princeton WordNet 3.0
For each included Hacettepe-aligned clue, Princeton WordNet 3.0 supplies the English source gloss and sense-frequency signal. ChronoGrid translates, shortens, filters, and edits that source text. Authored thematic clues and morphology-aware fallback clues do not use a Princeton gloss.

Selected English glosses were drafted into Turkish offline with Helsinki-NLP/opus-mt-tc-big-en-tr, released by the Helsinki-NLP Research Group under Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International (CC BY 4.0). The model is not embedded in the app and is not contacted at runtime. Drafts are filtered, shortened, and edited for ChronoGrid before inclusion.

ChronoGrid editing and safety · Düzenleme ve güvenlik
Before puzzle generation, ChronoGrid applies a conservative safety filter to both answers and selected definitions. Entries matching explicit sexual content or exploitation, severe abuse, profanity or slurs, hard-drug terms, self-harm, genocide, or torture are excluded. A small number of common words whose imported sense is unsuitable receive an authored neutral clue instead. This filter reduces sensitive dictionary senses but is not a guarantee that every remaining word suits every audience.

Words without a reviewed clue use a deterministic morphology-aware explanation generated locally. The app never sends a puzzle word to an online dictionary or translation service.
